Carrollwood Maternity Photographer

Cypress shadows, still lakes and a flowing gown. Maternity portraits for Carrollwood moms that feel calm, unhurried and completely you.

Carrollwood maternity photographer

Pregnancy in Carrollwood often comes with a long list: nursery paint colors, hospital tours up Van Dyke Road, a baby shower with the neighbors. Your maternity photoshoot should be the easiest item on it. As a Tampa maternity photographer, I plan every detail, from the gown to the pose to the light, so all you have to do is show up and enjoy being photographed.

I'm Mallary Denson, and Captured by Mallary Photography is a Black woman-owned studio in New Tampa with a 5.0 rating from 143 Google reviews. In 2026, 10 Best Photographers ranked me No. 1 for maternity in Tampa, and Best Tampa Photographers named me No. 2 Maternity Photographer in Tampa for 2027. I photograph moms of every shape, shade and story, and I take real care to make each one feel seen.

Quiet Water for a Quiet Season

There's something about still water that suits maternity portraits. Reflections, soft breeze and open sky give a calm, almost painterly look, and Carrollwood was literally built around a lake. Original Carrollwood's Lake Carroll is ringed with private homes, but within a short drive you'll find public lakes, cypress swamps and boardwalks that give the same serene mood.

I like to pair water with simple, flowing gowns in blush, ivory or deep emerald. Movement in the fabric, a hand resting on the bump, eyes closed in the breeze. These are the images that end up framed in the nursery, and they're much easier to create when you aren't rushing between locations across town.

Light matters just as much as setting. Near water, the hour before sunset bounces a gentle glow back onto your face and bump, and the cypress canopy keeps the brightest sun off your shoulders. I'll position you so the background falls into a soft blur while your expression stays sharp, which is the look most moms ask for when they show me inspiration photos.

Where to Photograph Your Bump Near Carrollwood

The best maternity spots near Carrollwood mix shade with water. Lake Park, just north on Dale Mabry Highway, is my first suggestion for moms who want cypress and lake views without a long walk. Lettuce Lake Park on Fletcher Avenue adds a dramatic boardwalk through floodplain forest, while the Carrollwood Cultural Center offers clean architecture for a more modern look.

Lake Park and Lettuce Lake each charge $2 per vehicle, and Lettuce Lake's observation tower and part of its boardwalk have been under reconstruction, so I confirm access first. If you'd rather skip the drive entirely, the pond at Carrollwood Village Park is right in the neighborhood and works well for a simpler, shorter session. For more location ideas, see my roundup of the best maternity photography locations in Tampa.

Lake Park

589 acres in Lutz with five lakes, cypress swamp and hardwood hammock. Lakeside light and shade make gowns glow. $2 per vehicle.

Lettuce Lake Park

A 3,500-foot boardwalk through cypress and floodplain forest along the Hillsborough River. Parts are under reconstruction, so I verify access first.

Carrollwood Cultural Center

A former church turned arts center on Casey Road with clean lines for a modern, editorial look.

Carrollwood Village Park pond

A calm pond and open lawn in the heart of Carrollwood, close to home for an easy evening session.

My New Tampa studio

Private and air conditioned, ideal for silhouettes, sheer fabrics and partner portraits.

Serving 33618, 33624 and Surrounding Neighborhoods

I photograph expecting moms across Carrollwood's two ZIP codes, 33618 and 33624. That includes Original Carrollwood, Carrollwood Village, Carrollwood Springs, Carrollwood Meadows and the many villages of The Plantation of Carrollwood near the Veterans Expressway.

From my New Tampa studio, Carrollwood is roughly 20 to 30 minutes away by Fletcher Avenue or Busch Boulevard, with Dale Mabry Highway, Gunn Highway and Ehrlich Road connecting most neighborhoods. Moms a little farther north often book me as a Land O' Lakes maternity photographer, and I also offer maternity photos in New Tampa and bay-front sessions as a South Tampa maternity photographer.

Carrollwood Then and Now

Carrollwood began in 1959, when developer Matt Jetton built beside spring-fed Lake Carroll. Just two years later, the National Association of Home Builders named it U.S. Subdivision of the Year. Around 1970, Jetton added Carrollwood Village to the northwest, and the area kept growing west in the decades that followed.

Today the Carrollwood CDP is home to 34,352 people according to the 2020 Census. For delivery, many moms choose St. Joseph's Hospital-North on Van Dyke Road in Lutz, which has private labor and delivery rooms and a neonatal intensive care unit, or St. Joseph's Women's Hospital closer to central Tampa. Both are part of BayCare and an easy drive from Carrollwood.

Carrollwood Village Park has its own surprising backstory. The roughly 50-acre site once held the Dale Mabry Wastewater Treatment Plant, and Hillsborough County turned it into lawns, trails and a pond that now draw over a million visits a year. It's proof that this neighborhood keeps reinventing itself, which feels fitting for a season of big change in your own life.

Planning Around Your Third Trimester

Most moms photograph best between 28 and 34 weeks, so I suggest booking 4 to 6 weeks before that window opens. That timing gives us room to reschedule if the weather or your energy calls for it. My maternity pose ideas post is a fun way to start planning what you'd like.

Carrollwood summers are hot and stormy, so I schedule warm-month sessions in the last hour of daylight and keep the studio as a backup. Fall through spring brings cooler evenings and softer golden hour light under the oaks. Whenever you're ready, book your Carrollwood maternity session and we'll start choosing your gown.

Carrollwood maternity photography FAQs

St. Joseph's Hospital-North on Van Dyke Road in Lutz is close to Carrollwood and offers maternity care, and St. Joseph's Women's Hospital in Tampa is another BayCare option. Many moms schedule maternity portraits between 28 and 34 weeks so the shoot falls well before those final appointments.

Lake Park covers 589 acres with five lakes, cypress swamp, pine flatwoods and hardwood hammock, so we can capture several looks in one session. Water reflections add a soft glow at golden hour, and the cypress frames a gown beautifully. Entry is $2 per vehicle, an easy add for a big variety of backdrops.

Lettuce Lake Park has a 3,500-foot boardwalk through cypress and floodplain forest on the Hillsborough River, but the observation tower and parts of the boardwalk are under reconstruction. Entry is $2 per vehicle, cash only. I check which sections are open before we confirm, and if needed we shift to Lake Park instead.

The Carrollwood Cultural Center at 13345 Casey Road was created from the former St. Mark's Episcopal Church, and its clean architectural lines make a modern, graphic backdrop for a fitted gown. It is an active arts campus with classes and concerts, so we would plan around its schedule and keep things low key.

Yes. Carrollwood Village Park has a paved trail and a pond close to open lawn, so you never have to walk far in a gown. The park covers about 50 acres and is open 7 am to 9 pm. Weekday evenings help, since more than 1 million visitors come through each year.

It is a little early. The sweet spot is 28 to 34 weeks, when your bump is round but moving is still comfortable. Book about 4 to 6 weeks ahead. Carrollwood Village moms are roughly 20 to 30 minutes from my New Tampa studio, approximately, so we can easily reschedule if your doctor or your energy level calls for it.

Please bring them. Partners and children are welcome, and I photograph family frames first, then solo bump portraits while your little one takes a break. Carrollwood Village Park's open lawn gives your little one room to move between setups. Guided posing keeps everyone relaxed and natural.

Yes, a client gown wardrobe is included with every session. For Lake Park or the pond at Carrollwood Village Park, flowing chiffon in dusty blue, sage or ivory echoes the water and greenery. My post on maternity poses shows how a long train moves in guided posing.

Collections range from Essentials with 5 images to Premium with 20, and if you want both Lake Park frames and studio portraits, a larger collection gives room for both looks. Extra images are $50 each. Full details are on my maternity pricing page.

For Carrollwood moms near Gunn Highway, an outdoor spot like Lake Park gives lakes and cypress. The studio offers privacy, steady light and the full gown wardrobe, perfect for bare-bump and silhouette portraits. Many moms do one, then add the other for a second look.

Yes. I work with moms throughout 33618 and 33624, from Original Carrollwood, which Matt Jetton founded in 1959 beside spring-fed Lake Carroll, to Carrollwood Meadows and Brightside Village. The Carrollwood CDP counted 34,352 residents in the 2020 Census.
