South Tampa Maternity Photographer
Flowing gowns, bay breezes and Moorish arches. Maternity portraits in South Tampa that feel as elegant as this season of your life.

There's a particular kind of light that falls on Hillsborough Bay just after sunrise, pale and soft, and it's made for a gown and a growing bump. As a Tampa maternity photographer working from my New Tampa studio, I bring expecting mothers to South Tampa for exactly that: water, history and architecture that turn a maternity photoshoot into something you'll want framed above the crib.
I'm Mallary Denson, and Captured by Mallary Photography holds a 5.0 rating across 143 Google reviews. 10 Best Photographers ranked me No. 1 for maternity in Tampa in 2026, and Best Tampa Photographers named me the No. 2 Maternity Photographer in Tampa for 2027. As a Black woman-owned studio, I pay close attention to skin tones, gown colors and posing that flatters every body.
Why South Tampa Suits Your Bump Photos
Few parts of Tampa give you this many looks in a few square miles. You can start beneath the silver minarets of Plant Hall, step into the oak-lined blocks of Hyde Park, and finish with your gown catching the wind beside the bay. For South Tampa maternity photography, that variety means one session can produce romantic, editorial and beachy images without hours in the car.
It also helps that many of my South Tampa moms deliver close by. Tampa General Hospital on Davis Islands and St. Joseph's Women's Hospital are both a short drive, so if you're planning the third trimester around appointments, a nearby session keeps the day easy on your back and feet.
I also keep the pace slow. Pregnancy changes how long you want to stand, how warm you get and how often you need water, so I build in breaks and keep each location to a short walk from parking. The goal is a relaxed maternity photoshoot that feels like a treat, not a workout.

Here is what a session with me includes. You'll choose from my client gown wardrobe, so there's no need to shop for a dress you'll wear once. I guide every pose, from hands framing the bump to quiet forehead touches with your partner, and partners and children are always welcome in the frame.
Your hand-retouched gallery arrives within 1 to 2 weeks. Extra images are $50 each, and you can compare options on my maternity pricing page or ask me which collection fits the story you want to tell.

- Premium, $1,150: 20 retouched images

South Tampa Backdrops for Gowns and Bumps
Each location below has its own personality. Some lean romantic, some lean coastal. Hyde Park's historic streets are public sidewalks, while the University of Tampa asks photographers to follow its photo and video policy and City of Tampa parks route paid portrait work through the film commission. I sort out those details before your date so you can focus on enjoying the moment.
When we plan together, I ask how you want the photos to feel. Romantic and airy usually points to the water. Classic and timeless points to Plant Hall or Hyde Park. Many moms pick two spots so the gallery tells a fuller story, and the Complete and Premium collections leave room for a gown change between them.
For more ideas, my favorite maternity photography locations around Tampa post covers beaches, gardens and city spots across the bay area.
Plant Hall, University of Tampa
Moorish arches and silver minarets from 1891 give an editorial, almost European feel to gown portraits. UT's photo policy applies here.
Hyde Park Village
Six blocks of open-air shops shaded by oaks. A softer, city-chic setting for a fitted dress and sandals.
Bayshore Boulevard at sunrise
The balustrade and quiet water before the joggers arrive make a classic Tampa maternity frame.
Picnic Island Park
West-facing beach in Port Tampa where a long gown can trail across the sand at sunset.
My New Tampa studio
Climate-controlled and private, ideal for fine-art silhouettes and sessions on stormy summer days.
Coming From Palma Ceia, Davis Islands or Beyond
I photograph expecting families throughout South Tampa, including Palma Ceia, Bayshore Beautiful, Ballast Point, Davis Islands, Hyde Park and Port Tampa. The area spans ZIP codes 33606 through 33629, bounded by Kennedy Boulevard to the north and MacDill Air Force Base at the southern tip.
From my New Tampa studio it's usually 30 to 40 minutes down I-275, then a quick hop along Dale Mabry Highway, Bay to Bay Boulevard or Gandy Boulevard. If you're nearer the north end of town, I also offer maternity photos in Carrollwood, and across the water I'm a St. Petersburg maternity photographer too. Moms east of the bay often book with me as a Riverview maternity photographer or for sessions in Apollo Beach.
Minarets, Pirates and a Century of Waterfront
Plant Hall began life in 1891 as Henry B. Plant's Tampa Bay Hotel, crowned with 13 silver minarets and Moorish arches that still glow at golden hour. Just south, Bayshore Boulevard stretches 4.5 miles from Platt Street to Gandy Boulevard and is often called the second longest continuous sidewalk in the country.
Every winter, Gasparilla takes over that same boulevard with a pirate parade tradition dating to 1904. If your due date lands near January, the festival weekends are worth avoiding for a calm shoot, and I'll plan around them.
Davis Islands carries its own story. Developer D.P. Davis built it in the 1920s from two small keys at the mouth of the Hillsborough River, and today it's home to Tampa General Hospital. That means the island where your baby may arrive can be visible from parts of Bayshore, a detail that can make the final prints feel even more personal.
Timing Your South Tampa Session
The sweet spot for maternity portraits is 28 to 34 weeks, when your bump is round and you still feel comfortable walking a short distance in a gown. I recommend booking 4 to 6 weeks ahead, and my guide on when to book a maternity photographer walks through the timeline.
In South Tampa, I lean toward early morning sessions from May through September, when the bay breeze is cooler and storms haven't built yet. In cooler months, evening golden hour at Picnic Island gives warm color that flatters every skin tone. When you're ready, reserve your maternity session and I'll send planning details right away.

South Tampa maternity photography FAQs
Just north of South Tampa, Plant Hall, the 1891 Tampa Bay Hotel with 13 silver minarets and Moorish arches, is a stunning setting for a flowing gown. The University of Tampa's photo and video policy says shoots may not impede campus functions or use private areas, and location agreements may be required through its Office of Marketing and Communications. We confirm the current rules before planning around it.
Tampa General Hospital on Davis Islands runs the Women's Institute Obstetrics Center, and BayCare's St. Joseph's Women's Hospital in Tampa offers maternity services as well. Both are close to most South Tampa neighborhoods. Scheduling your maternity portraits between 28 and 34 weeks keeps the shoot comfortably ahead of those final weeks of appointments.
Hyde Park Village is an open-air district of six city blocks under oak trees, so there is filtered shade even in third trimester heat. Storefront windows and walkways add a polished city look to bump portraits. Because the village is privately managed, we keep to common walkways and aim for an early morning start before shoppers arrive.
Picnic Island Park has a white sand beach on Old Tampa Bay facing west, so sunset paints everything warm. Deep jewel tones, rust or a soft blush from my client gown wardrobe stand out against pale sand and gold light. Since the wardrobe is included, you can try two looks. More ideas are in my guide to what to wear for maternity photos.
Thirty weeks is a lovely time for it, since the 28 to 34 week window gives a rounded bump while walking still feels easy. The Davis Islands Trail runs 1.3 miles along the water, so we can stop at a few points for couples portraits with your partner. The islands themselves were created in the 1920s from two small keys at the mouth of the Hillsborough River.
In summer I steer South Tampa sessions to the first hour after sunrise or the last hour before sunset. Ballast Point Park opens at 6 am, which suits an early start over Hillsborough Bay before the heat builds. Bring water and a small fan, and we will take breaks in the shade between gown changes.
It depends on the look you love. The studio gives controlled light, privacy and the full gown wardrobe steps away, ideal for silhouettes and bare-bump portraits. A waterfront spot along Bayshore Boulevard, beside Bayshore Beautiful, gives open sky and bay views, with a 4.5-mile sidewalk that is easy to walk in the third trimester.
Of course. Partners and children are welcome, and I photograph siblings early while their patience lasts. From Interbay or Port Tampa, the drive to my New Tampa studio is approximately 30 to 40 minutes via I-275, depending on traffic, so pack snacks and a favorite toy for the ride. A hand on the bump from a big sister is always a keeper.
Very likely. Hand-retouched images arrive within 1 to 2 weeks, so a 30-week session leaves plenty of time to print before your birth at Tampa General on Davis Islands or at St. Joseph's Women's Hospital. Collection sizes from 5 to 20 images are listed on my maternity pricing page, and extra images can be added later.
Spring is a lovely season for it. From Hyde Park, near Kennedy Boulevard in 33606, you can pick Plant Hall just north, the Hyde Park Village oaks, or a waterfront stretch toward Ballast Point further south. Main corridors like Dale Mabry Highway, Bay to Bay Boulevard and the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway make it simple to reach a waterfront location or head north to the studio.
Flats are the safer pick in the third trimester. The brick streets of Old Hyde Park are part of the charm, with homes built between 1886 and 1933, but uneven pavers can be tricky when your center of gravity shifts. Bring heels for standing poses only, and we will switch shoes between frames so you stay steady.
