Dunedin Maternity Photographer
Slash pines, quiet island sand and a sunset over St. Joseph Sound. Dunedin maternity portraits with gowns, guidance and room to breathe.

If you want maternity photos that feel calm and natural, Dunedin is hard to beat. Two island state parks sit just off the coast, the marina glows at sunset, and the pace of the town slows everything down. I'm Mallary Denson, the maternity photographer Tampa moms recommend to friends, and I bring my gown wardrobe and a posing plan from my New Tampa studio to the Dunedin coast for expecting moms who want something quiet and beautiful.
I guide every moment of your session, from where to place your hands on your bump to how to walk with your partner so the gown moves just right. You never need modeling experience. You just need to show up, and I take care of the rest.
Many expecting parents also want a few images that feel bigger than the moment, like a wide frame of you on an empty island beach or a close-up of small hands on your bump. I plan for both, so your gallery tells the full story of your pregnancy, from quiet details to sweeping coastal views.
Island Light and Pine Shadows for Your Bump
Honeymoon Island gives you two looks in one park. Along the Gulf side you get open sand and sunset backlight, and inland the Osprey Trail runs 2.5 miles through slash pine flatwoods, where the light filters down in long soft stripes. A pale gown against those tall trunks is one of my favorite maternity looks anywhere in Tampa Bay.
Caladesi Island is even quieter. It is reached only by ferry or private boat from Honeymoon Island, and its roughly three-mile beach was named the best in America by Dr. Beach in 2008. It takes more planning, but for a mom who dreams of untouched sand, it is worth the conversation.
Closer to town, the marina and Edgewater Park give a softer, more romantic feel. Boats rock in the water, the sky turns peach over St. Joseph Sound, and you and your partner can walk the waterfront slowly while I capture the quiet moments between poses.

Where to Shoot Maternity Photos in Dunedin
I match each location to the story you want to tell. Some moms want wide open beach and wind in the gown. Others want something more intimate, like a quiet trail or a soft evening by the boats.
Both island parks are Florida state parks, so they charge entry fees and have their own rules. I confirm current photography guidelines with the park before booking your date, and I keep walking distances short so you stay comfortable in your third trimester.
Before your session, I send a simple plan with the meeting point, timing and what to bring: water, comfortable sandals for the walk, and any meaningful items like a sonogram print, baby shoes or a sign with the baby's name. Small details like these make your pregnancy photos feel personal.
Osprey Trail on Honeymoon Island
A 2.5-mile trail through slash pine flatwoods with soft, striped light. State park entry fee applies.
Honeymoon Island Gulf Beach
Open sand facing west for sunset backlight through your gown and a soft breeze off the Gulf.
Caladesi Island State Park
About three miles of undeveloped beach reached only by ferry or boat from Honeymoon Island. Named America's best beach by Dr. Beach in 2008.
Dunedin Marina and Edgewater Park
Sailboat masts, waterfront shade and sunset color over St. Joseph Sound. Great for a couples maternity photoshoot.
Hammock Park
90 acres of shady nature trails in a quiet city park. Gentle light for warm summer days.
From Fairway Estates to the Causeway: Getting Around
I photograph expecting parents throughout Dunedin, including Fairway Estates, Dunedin Isles, Baywood Shores, Scotsdale and the neighborhoods around downtown and the marina. If you live near the water, a short drive to the causeway can turn into a full sunset session.
Coming from New Tampa, I take Tampa Road west through Oldsmar and then Curlew Road, State Road 586, which continues as Causeway Boulevard out to Honeymoon Island. The trip is about 31 to 35 miles and close to an hour. Alternate U.S. 19 follows the waterfront through town.
Nearby, I also photograph maternity photos in Palm Harbor, Clearwater maternity portraits on the Gulf beaches, and Safety Harbor maternity sessions by Old Tampa Bay.
Dunedin Facts for Expecting Parents
Dunedin is a Pinellas County city of 36,068 people according to the 2020 Census, incorporated as a town in 1899. Most addresses use ZIP code 34698. Honeymoon Island State Park covers more than 2,800 acres, and the Dunedin Causeway connects it to the mainland.
For delivery, Dunedin families often look to Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor, which runs a Maternity Center, or Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, home of the Sarah Walker Women's Center and a Level II NICU. Both are a reasonable drive from town.
Dunedin also makes it easy to add a second look without a long drive. Downtown Main Street sits right on the Pinellas Trail, so a few relaxed walking frames among the storefronts can bookend a beach or park session.
Timing Your Third Trimester Session on the Gulf
The ideal window for pregnancy photos is 28 to 34 weeks, and I suggest booking four to six weeks ahead. Island beaches face the sunset, so most of my Dunedin maternity sessions begin about an hour before the sun goes down.
Spring and fall bring cooler, drier evenings that are lovely for long gowns. In summer, we keep things short and shaded and plan around afternoon storms. Winter sunsets come earlier, so a December or January session can wrap up before dinner, leaving time to rest and put your feet up. Learn more about my approach, then book your Dunedin maternity session or send me a note with your due date.

Dunedin maternity photography FAQs
Absolutely. Honeymoon Island State Park's Gulf beaches give flowing gowns room to move, and my client wardrobe is included, so we can choose a color that pops against sand and water. Expect a per-vehicle state park entry fee, and since photography permit rules aren't confirmed, a quick call to the park beforehand is smart. More ideas: maternity outfit tips.
For a quiet, untouched look, it can be. Caladesi Island State Park has about three miles of undeveloped beach and is reached only by boat or ferry from Honeymoon Island. Plan for extra travel time and rest breaks in your third trimester, and we confirm portrait rules with the park first since they are not published.
Yes. Mease Countryside Hospital's Maternity Center in Safety Harbor and Morton Plant Hospital's Sarah Walker Women's Center in Clearwater are both Pinellas County hospitals, so a Dunedin spot like Hammock Park keeps your session on the same side of the bay as your delivery plans.
Hammock Park, a 90-acre city nature park with about five miles of trails, gives you tree cover and soft, even light on your bump. The butterfly garden adds color behind a lighter gown, and we only walk a short way in, so you never feel worn out before the best frames.
It works beautifully for couples. Edgewater Park beside the Dunedin Marina looks west across St. Joseph Sound, so we can pose you two at the water's edge as the evening sun drops. Shade trees at the park give you a cool place to rest between setups.
A tartan wrap or shawl over a neutral gown is a sweet nod to Dunedin's roots. The town was named after Edinburgh, Dun Eideann in Gaelic, and its sister city is Stirling, Scotland. Pair the plaid with the shops and storefronts of Downtown Dunedin for a look that feels unmistakably local.
Yes, partners and children are welcome. I photograph the sibling shots first, while energy is high, and then a parent can walk your little one along the shady paths at Hammock Park, a 90-acre city park, while we finish your solo bump portraits nearby.
Plan four to six weeks out so your session lands between 28 and 34 weeks. The Dunedin Highland Games have run every year since 1967 at Highlander Park, and the 2026 festival is April 10 and 11, so if your ideal week overlaps we can choose a different day or head out to Honeymoon Island instead.
The studio keeps you indoors with the gown wardrobe close by, but from Dunedin it is roughly 31 to 35 miles, about an hour without traffic. If the drive sounds worse than the heat, an early session under the trees at Hammock Park keeps you local and shaded.
Guided posing is part of every session, so you never have to guess what to do. On Main Street in Downtown Dunedin we start with simple walking frames along the Pinellas Trail, then step to a quieter corner for close bump portraits once you feel settled.
For a short Dunedin Marina session focused on you and your bump, Essentials at $400 with five hand-retouched images is a lovely fit. If your partner or kids join, a larger option gives more room for everyone. Compare them on my investment page.
