Safety Harbor Maternity Photographer
Sunrise over Old Tampa Bay, a mangrove boardwalk and a gown that moves with the breeze: maternity portraits in Safety Harbor feel peaceful and personal.

I'm Mallary Denson, a Tampa maternity photographer working from a studio in New Tampa, and Safety Harbor is one of the prettiest places I know for a bayfront maternity session. This small Pinellas County city sits on the west shore of Old Tampa Bay, which means the sun comes up over the water. If you're willing to set an early alarm, you'll get light that turns your gown and your bump to gold.
Every session is fully guided, from the first pose to the last. You'll choose a dress from my client gown wardrobe, and I'll show you exactly how to stand, where to rest your hands and when to look toward the water. Partners and children are welcome to join. Your hand-retouched gallery arrives in one to two weeks.
Bayfront Pregnancy Photos at First Light
Safety Harbor has a long relationship with water and wellness. Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto reached the mineral springs here in 1539 and named them Espiritu Santo Springs, and the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa, built over those springs, dates to 1925. Today the city's waterfront is public parkland, and it's a beautiful, quiet place to celebrate your pregnancy.
The city's own website points to the marina fishing pier as a great sunrise viewing spot, and I agree. A morning maternity photoshoot here gives you pastel sky, glassy water and soft side light on your bump. It's also cooler, which every third trimester mom appreciates.
The town's name has a story worth knowing, too. Ships that made it into this protected stretch of upper Tampa Bay were said to be safe from pirates, so sailors called it a safe harbor. For an expecting mother, that idea of shelter and calm feels like the right mood for portraits made just before life gets wonderfully busy.
Maternity Photographer Safety Harbor
Looking for a maternity photographer in Safety Harbor who knows how to make you feel comfortable on camera? My approach is calm and hands-on. I demonstrate each pose, adjust the drape of your gown, and keep checking in so you never feel rushed. For couples portraits, I use simple prompts that bring out real affection rather than stiff smiles.
Choose a studio, beach, nature and city, or couples session. Safety Harbor is within 30 miles of Tampa, so your outdoor maternity session can take place right here. If you're also considering the beaches nearby, my Clearwater Beach maternity guide compares the two looks.

Where to Take Maternity Photos in Safety Harbor
These locations cover the bayfront, downtown and the shade of old oaks, so you can choose the feeling you want, airy and coastal or warm and sheltered. All of them are public, and two of them sit side by side at the end of Main Street, which keeps walking to a minimum.
Waterfront Park
A 7.3-acre city park at the end of Main Street with a nature boardwalk through the mangroves. The boardwalk rails create clean leading lines toward you and your bump.
Veterans Memorial Park and Marina pier
The city highlights this fishing pier as a sunrise viewing spot. A long gown against pastel morning sky and calm bay water is hard to beat.
Philippe Park
Pinellas County's oldest park, 92 acres of shade trees on Old Tampa Bay. Ideal for a warm, sheltered evening session in a deep-toned gown.
Main Street
Mediterranean-style storefronts line downtown's main street. Works beautifully for a city-style couples maternity portrait on a quiet morning.
Getting Here: Roads and Neighborhoods in the 34695
Safety Harbor shares one ZIP code, 34695, and it's compact enough that most homes are a short drive from the bay. Main Street runs straight to the waterfront and the marina. Philippe Parkway, part of State Road 590, follows the shoreline north toward Philippe Park. McMullen-Booth Road runs along the east side of town, and Enterprise Road and State Road 580 connect north toward Oldsmar and Dunedin.
Moms in Harbor Woods Village, Philippe Pointe and Harbor Oaks Estates are close to the water. From my New Tampa studio, Safety Harbor is roughly 35 to 45 minutes across the bay, depending on traffic, so studio sessions are an easy option on the days when the weather won't cooperate.
Downtown is walkable, so a session can start with a few portraits in the soft morning light on Main Street and finish on the boardwalk at Waterfront Park, with almost no driving in between. That matters when you're carrying a baby and changing gowns.
Planning Around Weeks, Weather and the Tide of Seasons
The best window for maternity portraits is 28 to 34 weeks, and I recommend booking four to six weeks ahead. That way your bump is round and your energy is still good. If you'd like to understand costs before you commit, my maternity photography pricing post lays everything out.
Summer in Pinellas County means heat, humidity and afternoon storms, so sunrise sessions are a smart choice from June through September. In cooler months, an evening session under the oaks at Philippe Park works beautifully, since the park stays open until sunset. Philippe Park is a Pinellas County park, and the county doesn't require a film permit for an individual or group portrait when the camera is handheld or on a tripod, there's no large lighting setup, traffic isn't blocked and the park is used during regular hours.
For gowns, pale blue, ivory and soft lilac look dreamy at sunrise on the water, while emerald and burgundy pop against green oak canopy.
Local Maternity Care and a Few Safety Harbor Facts
Mease Countryside Hospital, on McMullen-Booth Road in Safety Harbor, runs a BayCare Maternity Center recognized by The Joint Commission as Level II Maternal Care verified, with OB Urgent Care beside Labor and Delivery. Wherever you plan to deliver, I'll schedule your session so the gallery is in your hands well ahead of your due date.
Safety Harbor was incorporated in 1917, counted 17,072 residents at the 2020 Census, and keeps its history close: the Safety Harbor Museum of Regional History on Bayshore Boulevard sits on the site of a Tocobaga shell mound. I'm proud to hold 5.0 stars on Google from 143 reviews, No. 1 maternity in Tampa for 2026 from 10 Best Photographers, and No. 2 Maternity Photographer in Tampa for 2027 from Best Tampa Photographers. Safety Harbor maternity photography FAQs
Mease Countryside Hospital sits at 3231 McMullen-Booth Road in Safety Harbor, and its Maternity Center is Joint Commission verified for Level II maternal care, with OB urgent care. With Waterfront Park and Main Street in the same small city, your session can stay close to where you plan to deliver.
Yes, and it's one of the prettiest bayfront settings in town. Waterfront Park is a 7.3-acre city park at 105 Veterans Memorial Lane with a nature boardwalk through mangroves. The boardwalk keeps you off sand and roots, and the deep green frames a light gown nicely.
It's a lovely choice if you're an early riser. Veterans Memorial Park and Marina in Safety Harbor is a 6.62-acre park with a fishing pier the city notes for sunrise viewing. Soft morning light over the bay flatters your bump, and early hours tend to be cooler in the third trimester.
The historic Safety Harbor Resort and Spa dates to 1925 and was built over the mineral springs Hernando de Soto reached in 1539 and named Espiritu Santo Springs. It's a working resort, so its grounds need the resort's permission, but downtown Main Street gives a similar historic feel.
Main Street's Mediterranean-style storefronts suit warm tones like terracotta, cream or deep green. A fitted gown from my included client wardrobe photographs beautifully against those facades, and comfortable flats help between blocks. See my maternity outfit guide for more Safety Harbor-friendly ideas.
Yes. Philippe Park stretches along Old Tampa Bay, so we can pose you two with open water behind you, then step under the oaks for close, tender frames. Pinellas County allows handheld portraits without a film permit during regular park hours, which run 7 a.m. to sunset.
Yes, partners and children are welcome. Safety Harbor is a small city of 17,072 residents (2020 Census), so we can choose a spot close to home, keep the drive short and protect nap schedules. Little ones get a few sweet frames with the bump, then a snack break.
It's approximately 35 to 45 minutes, roughly 30 miles, via the Veterans Expressway or I-275 and the bay crossing. If sitting that long sounds uncomfortable, Safety Harbor's own Waterfront Park or Main Street keeps your session local and lets you rest at home right after.
Safety Harbor is compact and shares one ZIP code, 34695, so whether you live in Philippe Pointe, Harbor Woods Village or North Bay Hills, Philippe Park, Waterfront Park and Main Street are all within the city. Pick whichever setting fits your style best.
Guided posing does the heavy lifting. At Waterfront Park I give your partner simple jobs, like holding your hand or resting a palm on the bump, and we walk the mangrove boardwalk together so it feels like a date instead of a photo shoot.
Your hand-retouched gallery arrives in one to two weeks, so photos from a Safety Harbor session around 32 weeks at Veterans Memorial Park are ready well before your due date. Collections start with Essentials at $400, and every option is on my investment page.
